Around 1,560 tonnes of fresh dragon fruit were cleared for export to China through the Lào Cai International Border Gate on February 17–18, the first two days of the Lunar New Year, marking a strong start to Vietnam’s 2024 fruit export season.

First Shipments of the Year
According to Mr. Nguyễn Quyết Chiến, Head of the Lào Cai International Border Gate Customs Office, three Vietnamese companies — Ánh Lộc, Bảo An, and Tân Hưng Thịnh — transported the dragon fruit in 32 container trucks bound for China.
The fruit was sourced from major growing regions, including Bình Thuận Province in south-central Vietnam and the Mekong Delta provinces of Sóc Trăng and Vĩnh Long. These areas are renowned for producing high-quality dragon fruit that meets export standards.
Expanding Export Markets
In previous years, hundreds of thousands of tonnes of dragon fruit were exported to China through the same border gate. Beyond China, Vietnamese dragon fruit has successfully reached new and demanding markets such as India, New Zealand, Australia, and Chile, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
More Than Just Fresh Fruit
Vietnam does not only export fresh dragon fruit. The country has also expanded into frozen and processed dragon fruit products — including frozen whole fruit, diced cubes, and purees — to meet the diverse needs of international consumers and food manufacturers.
A Bright Future for Vietnam’s Signature Fruit
As one of Vietnam’s most recognizable agricultural exports, dragon fruit continues to play an important role in promoting Vietnamese produce to the world. The strong start to 2024 signals a promising year for the fruit export industry, driven by both traditional and emerging global markets.
