Frozen Dong Leaves

Dong Leaves (dong leaf) (scientific name is Phrynium placentarium) are widely planted in northern Vietnam. They are sold everywhere, if you are abroad, you can buy the frozen dong leaves in supermarkets for Vietnamese or Asian.

Trang Cat Village in Thanh Oai District, Hanoi is famous for its large, green Dong leaves, which usually measure some 25-35cm in width and 50-60cm in length. The Dong leaf has long been used for wrapping “banh chung” (square glutinous rice cake), an indispensable type of food Vietnamese people eat during Tet, the Vietnamese term for the Lunar New Year.
